imgThis month MMS Trust Services is celebrating our 10th year in business and it is time to sit back and reflect on where it all started.

On the 30th of May 2008 MMS Trust Services (Pty) Ltd was formed with Managing Director Jacques van Wyk, leading the company’s day to day activities in providing a professional service to their clients.

Jacques completed his BCom Accounting degree through RAU (now known as the University of Johannesburg) and his BComt Honours CTA degree through UNISA. He completed his articles at MMS and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2007.

During this time MMS started to receive an influx of trust related work. Once qualified, Jacques’ interest in the long-term tax and estate planning drove him to do intense research on the topic of trusts. He consulted key players in the industry, who gave him great insight into the world of trusts and further fuelled his fascination with long-term planning. Jacques’ interest in wealth and tax planning and his new-found knowledge, gave him the imputes to turn his passion into what we now know as MMS Trust Services (Pty) Ltd.

MMS Trust Services has come a long way in the past 10 years and we are proud to be recognised as one of the preferred suppliers for one of the top banking institutions in South Africa as well as one of the largest investment houses in our country. We can also boast with the fact that, to date, our SAIPA candidates have had a 100% pass rate in the SAIPA Professional Evaluation Exam and we have successfully produced 8 Professional Accountants (SA). Two of our trainee Accountants are currently awaiting their exam results and we have another 5 trainee Accountants in the process of completing their articles.

But who is the man behind the MMS Trust Services? How well do you know Jacques van Wyk? Here are some fun facts:

Jacques was born in 1977 in Boksburg and grew up on the Westrand of Johannesburg. He started his school career at Laerskool Helderkruin. He matriculated from Hoërskool Roodepoort before starting his career as an Accountancy student. His first car was a yellow, 1980 Mazda 323 hatchback. While growing up, Jacques dreamt of becoming a Professional tennis player. During 2016 Jacques was selected to represent the SA Men over 35 veteran tennis team in Croatia, but tennis is not Jacques’ only talent, he also enjoys a round of golf and has a handicap of 14.

Jacques also enjoys cooking on the open flames and his famous potbrood is always a winner at the annual potjiekos competition, although he would modestly say that he is no Master chef!

Jacques learned the hard way that you should: “never hit the open road in any other bakkie than a Toyota…” But that is a story for another day! 😉

His favourite rugby team is the Lions and to travel the world is on his bucket list. Hotel California is on the top of his playlist and he has watched “Remember the Titans” almost 50 times.

Jacques is also a loving dad of two beautiful boys, Wiid (8) and De Wet (11).

When we asked Jacques what MMS Trust Service’s biggest achievement is to date, he answered:

“Being able to put together such an amazing team of people. MMS Trust Services wouldn’t have been where we are today without team work. We work hard, and we play hard, and I think that is what makes us such an incredible team!”

MMS Trust Services has come along way in the past decade and will continue to grow from strength to strength.

“I enjoy the challenge brought about by ever changing legislation, which keeps us on our toes and motivates us to continue to provide the best possible service and advise to our clients. I am excited to see what the next 10 years has in store for us!” – Jacques van Wyk

We would like to thank our clients for their continued support through-out the years, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!

Here is to the next 10 years!
